Cue Sheets $12.78 These beautiful and evocative cues were originally written for a series of films and television shows ranging from a black and white film on William Blake to a television show about fishing. Drawing from the jazz, classical, and European traditional music genres, these pieces are perfect in their crystalline brevity. Their shortness allows them to become charming little morsels of the style to which they are playing tribute without descending into mimicry or repetition. The stunningly talented musicians who were recruited for this project also do a lot to make it work well. Sax player Tony Coe, violinist Alex Balenescu, and percussionist Mark Sanders are among the musicians who anchor this project. They do an excellent job of keeping the energy high. Like the other albums in Tzadik's film music series, Cue Sheets manages to inject a dose of innovation into a genre that suffers both from shoddy work and a conservatism that strangles the creative voice. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi Performers: Utako Ikeda - Baroque Flute; Amanda M. Breden - Cello; Ashan Pillai - Viola; Eddie Saunders - Voices; Marcio Mattos - Double Bass, Cello, Bass; Mike Cooper - Slide Guitar; Alexander Balanescu - Violin; Annie Whitehead - Trombone; John Harborne - Trombone; Mark Sanders - Drums, Percussion; Pete Whyman - Sax (Tenor), Sax (Soprano), Clarinet; Steve Beresford - Piano; Tony Coe - Clarinet (Bass), Sax (Tenor), Sax (Soprano), Sax (Alto), Clarinet; Wolter Wierbos - Trombone |

Retro $104.79 Yet another New Order compilation? Add Retro to the dizzying stack of New Order compilations and best-ofs. Actually, it was the second comp to come out in the last half of 2002 (International was released in October and contains nearly every song that is on Retro). With that said, Retro is probably the most expansive and interesting New Order compilation since 1987's Substance. Keeping an eye and ear on the amazing Joy Division set Heart and Soul, Rhino stepped in to publish this box as well (that alone will give Retro a bit more credibility). The packaging is more or less identical to Heart and Soul's four-CD orientation and comes complete with its own Peter Saville-directed artwork and 70-plus-page booklet. Unlike the Joy Division set, Retro makes no attempt to create a comprehensive or complete look at New Order's expansive catalog. Rather, it is set up as an ultimate mix tape that might be made for someone's cousin who knows nothing of this band. And like a mix tape, everyone's track list would be different and would probably carry on a different mood. This one is curated by four individual selectors, and each disc carries on with a major theme. The first disc, "POP," is compiled by U.K. journalist Miranda Sawyer and contains all the major New Order favorites: "Blue Monday," "Bizarre Love Triangle," "Confusion," and a few minor surprises such as "Brutal" (featured on the Beach soundtrack). John McCready, journalist and Hacienda DJ, put together a "FAN" disc that contains some moodier album cuts like "Your Silent Face" and "Sooner Than You Think." Mike Pickering (M People, Hacienda DJ), selects New Order's dance-friendly material on the "CLUB" disc. Finally, Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) picks up some "LIVE" tracks -- which proves to nicely distill New Order's generally hit-or-miss concert performances. While Retro may not be a complete necessity ("Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" should never appear on another New Order disc), it does pull together into one spot enough rarities (nothing too impossible to find, though) and a rather entertaining track list for obsessives. For the uninitiated, Substance is probably still the best place to start. [A five-disc version was released on a strictly limited basis that held some harder-to-find tracks.] ~ Sam Samuelson, Rovi Performers: Dawn Zee - Vocals (Background); Pauline Taylor - Vocals (Background); Billy Corgan - Vocals, Guitar; Phil Cunningham - Guitar, Keyboards |

Retro-Active $13.58 Mark Hummel is fond of putting together puzzle pieces of different recording sessions to produce a whole album of blues, and with Retro-Active, he's done it again. Studio dates from 2000 up to 2009 comprise this effort, with guitarist Rusty Zinn at the helm for the most part, and various rhythm sections along with a few special guests. As a harmonica player, Hummel has no equal, but here is heard more as a lead vocalist that nobody should complain about. He's got a good voice that is not exploited into the shout-out range, sings the blues authentically, and taps on sources like classic Jimmy Reed or Muddy Waters sounds to make his original music, or excellent covers of his main men. With his various bands, Hummel can get down, stomp down, or swoon about his baby with the best, but when he's jamming on the harp, he's untouchable. The twangy surf sound of "Roller Coaster" and popping calypso of "Highway Rumba" differentiate themselves from this all-out urban Chicago blues program, adding some charm or delight respectively. But it's when Hummel digs in on a slower "Honey Bee Blues" and especially the classic Waters tune "I Want to Be Loved," or channeling Reed during the steady, choogling "My Baby's so Sweet" that you hear where his true heart lies. Commander Cody drummer Lance Dickerson, Charlie Musselwhite on acoustic guitar, electric guitarist Steve Freund, and pianist Steve Wethy/Lucky all make single cameo appearances, while James Cotton and John Mayall endorse Hummel with quotes in the liner notes. It's another excellent outing for Mark Hummel, but it does make one wonder when he'll do a recording with a single band all the way through. ~ Michael G. Nastos, Rovi Performers: Kid Anderson - Drums (Snare), Mandolin, Guitar; Bob Welsh - Piano, Organ, Guitar; Burton Winn - Bass; Charles Wheal - Guitar; Charlie Musselwhite - Guitar (Acoustic); Chris Burns - Organ, Piano; Johnny Bones - Saxophone; Lance Dickerson - Drums; Lech Wierzynski - Trumpet; |

Ellesse clothes and the history behind them
The Beginning of Ellesse clothes
Founded in 1959 by Leonardo Servadio, Ellesse clothes have become synonymous with the skiing elite and "it" skiing crowd. Mr servadio was on the lookout during the late 50s for ski wear but could not find anything and this forced him to simply design and produce his own brand. Ellesse clothes broke the boundaries between what was available at the time with the cross over between fashion and sport.
The 1960's and 70s
During the 1960s ellesse explored new and innovative concepts of ski wear. Leonardo wanted each item of ellesse clothes to not only perform well but also to look good one and with this in mind he discovered a new performance enhancing material that would later revolutionise the ski wear and attire of the time unlike any other fabric.
Whilst still creating unique and innovative products the 70s saw the birth of the iconic and classic "jet pant" an all new take on the ski trouser with their figure hugging cut and the way in which the leg fitted on top of the ski boot rather than it having to be tucked into the boot itself.
Ellesse's status within winter sports becomes their passport into the world of tennis, which suited the styling of ellesse clothes perfectly.
The 70s also saw the launch of the new half ball logo and this helps to change the way in which tennis clothing of the time were made forever, now it was all about pleats and fine tailoring to be seen on all ellesse clothes. This idea/concept of tailoring of sportswear also sees ellesse clothes become a firm favourite with the jet set crowd of Val disere.
Another important milestone in sportswear at the end of the 70s was the introduction of the now famous ellesse half ball logo was its appearance on the outside of ellesse clothes, this was a move copied by brands around the world ever since.
The 1980s
The who's who of tennis is now stepping out in ellesse clothes such as Guillermo Vilas and Boris Becker, who became the poster boys for ellesse clothes.
Ellesse goes on to be official supplier of ten national ski teams and sponsors of the Italian soccer team who go on to win the world cup in spain 1982.
Throughout the 80s ellesse clothes go on to capture the 80s zeitgeist with iconic adverts, posters and calendars.
1990s and 00's
In the early 90s ellesse continue to reinvent the concept of sportswear fashion with new and improved designs and new sponsorship deals see ellesse clothes launched even further into the forefront of fashion. In 1998 ellesse supports Jean-luc cretier the gold medal winner who then goes onto grace the cover of Time Magazine and this in turn creates an iconic moment in sports history when he graces the covers decked out in ellesse clothes.
During 2004 ellesse teams up with a London based designer by the name of eley kishimoto. This collaboration receives extensive coverage from high end fashion publications such as Vogue, Elle and other top fashion titles.
In 2006 ellesse makes "forplay" a new and suggestive advertising campaign that creates a bit of a stir. With another global campaign in 2007 ellesse team up with top fashion photographer Daniela Federici.
Finally the sports campaign of 2008 takes many of its cues from futurism whilst still combining heritage with product design innovation that keeps ellesse clothes at the forefront of the sports fashion market.
